Insiders often create unauthorized wireless network access points to bypass security measures
and to sidestep Internet usage policies. Although they may not access the
network for any sinister purpose, their actions are still dangerous because they
expose the network to outsiders waiting to exploit any opening.
Many of the most fundamental wireless security threats are eliminated --or at least drastically reduced-- by simply ensuring that the security and encryption measures built into network equipment and mobile devices are switched on.
In addition, organizations using Wi-Fi should perform regular wireless penetration testing and scanning to detect
unauthorized wireless access points.
