As part of an effort to identify and correct systems flaws that could contribute
to security problems, it is a wise practice to perform desktop and server build reviews. Such reviews assess system security
settings, registry security and permissions, default services and daemons, and user account configuration.
Build reviews begin by logging onto systems as a standard user and attempting
unauthorized tasks. This effort will reveal how easy it is to access key parts of
an operating system. Companies should limit user access to those parts of the system to which they have legitimate access.
IT personnel also must
verify that only those functions essential to a server's operation are running.
Ceptera's build review service illustrates our commitment to helping clients
achieve a comprehensive view of factors that contribute to
inadequate security. We work closely with clients to identify business risks and recommend ways
to reduce those risks.
